Community Giving: The Tiwahe Foundation

tiwaher

"Tiwahe" means family — with family values and lasting ties. Where mutual support and giving add up to self-sufficiency and sustainability. Where relationships — among people, and all living things — are supreme.

The Tiwahe Foundation is a place for giving, and giving back. A place that benefits the well-being of American Indian people and communities throughout Minnesota. They are a community foundation of friends and supporters — Indian and non-Indian — who have resources, time, and talents to share. All working together to inspire the philanthropy and generosity within every person.

This philosophy is referred to as the "Circle of Giving" — a continuous cycle of success grounded in indigenous culture that recognizes that giving benefits those that give, and those that receive. The Tiwahe Foundation is a trusted community partner, connector, and resource.

Visions is a long-time supporter of the great work done by the Tiwahe Foundation, and we recently sponsored their Circle of Giving's annual fundraiser by donating print, mail, and marketing services. We are proud to have made this small contribution to help promote such a special event.

The evenings keynote speaker was Billy Mills, the first American Indian, and only American to ever win a gold medal in the Olympic 10,000 meter race. Born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, Billy graduated from the University of Kansas, and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He is the founder of Running Strong for American Indian Youth, and is a nationally-known speaker on youth, giving back to community, and living a healthy life.

As part of our commitment to build better communities, Visions stands with The Tiwahe Foundation, and many others, as we work together to strengthen the communities in which we all live.
